Location

Pensacola Studio of Piano is located in the Ferry Pass area of Pensacola near HCA Florida West Hospital.

Lesson Registration

If you are not currently enrolled with Pensacola Studio of Piano, please register on the website and you will receive an email with further information. The studio is generally full, and registering on the website will add you to the contact list to receive information about future openings as they arise.

To start lessons, students must be 6 years old, or turning 6 that semester.

Home Practice

Students should have either a piano or a full-size electric piano (88 keys) with weighted keys and a damper (sustain) pedal at their home. A smaller instrument may be used for a few months of lessons, but students beyond the primer level book will need to have a full-sized instrument as described above.

To succeed in lessons, students should plan to practice at least 5 days each week. Each student’s weekly assignment will be specified at their lesson and written in their assignment book.

If you need to cancel or reschedule a summer lesson, please let me know at least 24 hours in advance for planned activities, or as soon as possible for sickness.

School Year Schedule

Tuition costs cover 31 private lessons, 2 group lessons, and 2 recitals each school year. Lessons begin after Labor Day and go through the week before Memorial Day. Piano lessons will not be in session during the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas Break (2 weeks) and Escambia County Spring Break week.

(Exception: Since Monday students do not have a lesson on Labor Day, they will be have a lesson scheduled the Monday of Thanksgiving week instead.)

The 2024/2025 calendar includes 34 weeks: 33 weeks for lessons as outlined above, and one Free Week. Should I be unable to teach on a lesson day, this allows me some flexibility without disrupting your child’s 33 lessons. I will guarantee to be available to teach each student 33 lessons during the year, and will make up any lessons beyond the Free Week if I have to make further cancellations. Lessons cancelled by students will not be made up.

Missed Lessons
Since my studio is full, I am unable to offer makeup lessons for missed lessons. If you are unable to attend your scheduled lesson, you are welcome to use one of these options.

1. Online Lesson: You can Skype, Zoom, or FB video chat from anywhere that you have access to it, whether at home or on a trip! Skype lessons will occur during your regularly scheduled lesson time.

2. Video Feedback: Students may send in videos of themselves playing their pieces sometime before their scheduled lesson time. During their lesson time, I will either write out feedback or make a response video with feedback.

3. Swap List: Students who have opted into the swap list may swap with another student. The swap list will contain the name of the adult on the account and their phone number, and will be emailed to everyone on it. I cannot guarantee that someone will be able to swap with you, it's just a courtesy that is available to students who want to try it.

Swap list rules:
~ Swaps may only be set up by adults (parents and adult students) - not children and not the teacher.

~ I need to be notified at least 1 hour in advance of the first lesson time being swapped. You may either email or text me with the swap details.

~ No make-up lessons will be given if any confusion from a swap arises.

~ The swap list information may only be used for swaps. No advertising, selling, or anything else. Failure to abide by this rule will result in removal from the swap list for the rest of the school year.

Recitals
Every year, we have a Christmas Recital and a Spring Recital for all students. Other performance opportunities, such as Sonata Contest, may also be offered to eligible students.

House Rules
~ To give all students a lesson free of excess distractions, students and parents should not knock, ring, or enter sooner than 3 minutes before their lesson time. If you arrive more than 3 minutes early, please wait either in your vehicle or on the front porch.

~ When it is your lesson time, please enter quietly without knocking or ringing the doorbell and wait in the entryway or the seating provided.

~ Shoes must be removed upon entering, and should not be worn beyond the entryway area. After removing their shoes, students should wash their hands before their lesson.

~ Parents or siblings who choose to stay during lessons should wait quietly in the studio area. If a student is hindered or distracted by having family members in the room, you may be asked to wait elsewhere during the lesson. Family members may also wait outside on the front porch or in the front lawn. Please make sure that your child is respectful of the porch and yard.
